The Marantz SA8005 one-ups its highly regarded predecessor, the SA8004, with even more features and versatility. The most significant feature of the new SA-8005 is the flexibility of its USB DAC. It offers iOS and thumb drive compatible up front (supporting up to 24/192 FLAC and WAV) and PC/MAC compatible around the back for playback of everything up to 5.8 MHz DSD files.

Add a high-current headphone amp and a very robust fixed line output for connection to your preamp (both based around Marantz's proprietary HDAM circuits) and you've got one heck of a DAC on your hands. And it goes without saying that the SA8005 does a great job playing discs too!

Inspired by Marantz's Premium Line

Marantz design engineers have taken everything possible from what they learned in Marantz's Premium Line and reincarnated that knowledge in this exquisite stereo Super Audio CD Player - along with a mega-portion of versatility. For example, it faithfully reproduces a wide sound stage with no extra or missing information, thanks to the faster, low-noise and lower impedance symmetrical circuits with high-quality components.

The loading mechanism virtually eliminates resonance, while its reduced distortion spectrum gets the very best of audio quality from Super Audio CDs. And just like the Premium SA-14S1, the SA8005 includes a DAC mode. It has optical and coaxial digital input as well as USB-B for direct connection to your PC. This means you can use the player's high-quality DAC and the high-quality audio output stage with HDAM-SA2 modules. That's why this newly developed player also includes Marantz's latest ground/signal isolator technology to virtually eliminate PC noise.

The player operates as a soundcard for the PC and the USB-B port works in asynchronous mode to support not only 24-bit/192 kHz, but also the DSD 2.8MHz and 5.6MHz for maximized versatility and performance. Front and rear panel USB inputs expand your musical horizons as never before. Now you can enjoy your iPhone and iPod audio files via a digital connection and hear them anew though your audio system courtesy of the SA8005's advanced circuitry.

Both the front panel USB "Type A" input and the rear panel USB "Type B" input support 24-bit files. The rear panel USB-B port works in asynchronous mode and capable of handling PCM up to 192kHz/24bits and DSD2.8 & 5.6Mhz direct streaming. In addition to your iPod and iPhone files, you can "push" high definition digital music files from your computer to the SA8005. The SA8005 also accepts data from any USB stick or USB hard drive storage device.

The SA8005 includes two rear-panel digital outputs. These outputs provide an S/PDIF signal even when the USB input is receiving iTunes music files.

In the analog section, Marantz-proprietary HDAM SA2 circuits handle critical buffering and stage-to-stage signal transition. Symmetrical signal traces help maintain perfect synchronization between left and right channels for rock-stable imaging and a convincing soundstage.

An impedance-matching copper plate inside the rear panel just behind the analog outputs improves signal-to-noise performance and channel separation to preserve the SA8005's outstanding imaging capabilities. A shield around the digital outputs is a further detail in Marantz's quest for quieter operation as it prevents digital noise from affecting sensitive analog circuits.

Known to produce less stray magnetic leakage that can otherwise increase noise in analog circuits, Marantz engineers chose a high capacity toroid transformer for the SA8005's power supply. To suppress the noise even further, Marantz engineers specified an exterior casing with large non-conductive brass mounting screw to hold the transformer in place.

Cirrus Logic SACD DAC

The Cirrus Logic CS4398 DAC offers advantages. For SACD playback, the Cirrus IC accepts the SACD's 2.8224 MHz sampling rate directly without the need for any preconditioning, and the integral 50 kHz low-pass filter protects subsequent circuitry from potential oscillation.

Dedicated Headphone Output and More

The headphone output includes a high-speed current buffer circuit for minimal interference with the main audio output circuit, maximum articulation, stability, and fatigue-free listening.

Other features include a soft-touch Power/Standby switch and full-function remote. A true Marantz, it contains the most advanced circuits in a chassis that's highly styled to blend with any decor.

Marantz HDAM Technology

Instead of conventional op-amp integrated circuits, the SA8005 is equipped with our exclusive HDAM (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) technology. These discrete circuit elements feature wide-band response along with high slew rate, to deliver the most nuanced and detailed musical reproduction, and are ideally suited for today's high resolution wide-band digital audio sources.

High Resolution D/A Conversion

Featuring the reference-class high current CS4398 D/A converter, the SA8005 can accept a wide range of digital audio source types, including Super Audio CD Direct Stream Digital content at 2.8 and 5.6 MHz, along with linear PCM up to 24 bits and 192 kHz. The analog audio sections feature HDAM technologies for the purest audio reproduction. High Current Toroidal Power Transformer

The ergonomically designed remote control includes additional control functionality that lets you operate the matching Marantz PM8005 integrated stereo amplifier as well as our network audio component.
